Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) is a derivative of Methyl cellulose. HPMC is a non-ionic cellulose ether made from natural renewable polymer, such as cotton or wood pulp. It is an odourless, tasteless and non-toxic white powder, which can be dissolved in cold water to form a transparent viscous solution.

VIVAPHARM® HPMC, hypromellose, is a cellulose-based polymer for film coating, wet granulation, and hard capsule manufacturing. It is practically insoluble in hot water, acetone, anhydrous ethanol, and toluene and dissolves in cold water, resulting in a colloidal solution. VIVAPHARM® HPMC is E type , meaning that its average content of methoxyl groups is 29% and its average content of hydroxypropyl groups is 10%.
