About xenon-133

Xenon-133 is a radioisotope in the form of a gas. It is mainly used for lung perfusion tests, which is a form of diagnostics for lung problems. The patients will inhale the gas, which then spreads through the lungs. Using a gamma camera, an image of the lungs can be created to evaluate the condition of the lungs.

Xenon

Xenon is classified as a rare atmospheric gas. It is nontoxic, tasteless, colorless, odorless and monatomic and chemically inert. It makes up approximately 0.09 ppm of the atmosphere. Xenon ionizes at lower voltages than other gases and emits brilliant, distinctive light while conducting electricity. Even though Xenon is nontoxic, it can still function as a simple asphyxiant by displacing the oxygen in the air and cannot be detected by color or odor.
