My dog had two incisions with staples. They weren't too large, maybe 3 inches each with about 8 staples each. After approx 10 days, I could see that the woulds were healed up and I didn't want to pay for another vet bill. I bought this staple remover and it really was about a 5 minute or less process to remove the staples. My dog had no objection to me removing them and didn't react (i.e. as if it was painful). you slip the staple remover under the staple and squeeze the handle, this bends the prongs of the staple to more of a vertical position so that the staples can be pulled straight out. With a few of the staples I did have to wiggle them a bit to get them out but no problem. This isn't an industrrial staple remover, but certainly did the job for me.
