What is epilation?
Susymei Product Page
Epilation is a method of hair removal that pulls out the hairs along with the root, like waxing. Unlike waxing, however, when you know how to epilate correctly it doesnt have to be a painful process. You can also do it anytime, anywhere, and without the mess of waxing.
An electric epilator is made with a textured surface of rotating discs that grip the hairs and pull them out, along with the roots. Its important to choose an epilator that rotates quickly to make the process as quick and comfortable as possible. The Philips Satinelle Advanced Wet & Dry epilator is designed with faster disc rotation than ever RPM for the fastest and easiest hair removal. Thanks to the disc rotating at this speed, its more effective in uprooting the follicle and avoids breaking the hairs and taking forever, which are common effects of using a slower epilator.
Depending on how quickly your hair grows, you can enjoy two to three weeks of smooth skin between epilating. As epilation takes the root with the hair, the regrowth is also usually finer and softer.
Are you getting the best performance from your epilator? Whether you're an epilator newbie or a skilled veteran, there are always some tricks of the trade that can make epilation less painful with a better, smoother outcome! Check out some of our top tips to super smooth skin below.
Epliate at the right time! Epilating two or three days post shaving is easier on the skin and is less painful than epilating two or three weeks post shaving.
Exfoliate - Exfoliating before epilation helps to loosen any ingrown hairs and remove dead skin cells to prep the skin for a better result.
Have a bath - Epilating wet skin generally works better and is more painless than epilating dry skin. The skin is also more relaxed and desensitised when it has been bathed in warm water first. If youre epilating wet, do so in the bath under the water rather than the shower. Its just easier that way! Start using the epilator only after youve been relaxing in the warm water for about 5 minutes then, with your leg and epilator fully submerged, start the process.

If you are epilating dry, your skin should be oil-free and entirely dry to prevent the epilator from just glossing over hairs instead of plucking them. You can use talcum powder to remove oils from the skin.
Treat sensitive skin differently - Use a Braun Silk-epil 7 Wet & Dry epilator if you have especially sensitive skin. This model can be used underwater, giving you the gentlest epilation possible! (Always check the specifications of your model before use - not all Braun epilators can be used under running water)
Having a hard time getting that one hair? Brush across your skin against the direction of the hair growth before epilating. This will lift the shorter hairs and give the epilator a better grip. You should always epilate against the direction of hair growth.
Avoid epilation just before or during your period - If you're looking to avoid as much pain as possible, avoid epilating just before or during your period, as during this time your hormones are working double time and your skin will be more sensitive and painful.
Rinse before lotion - Rather than slathering on cold lotion right after epilating, rinse your skin under cold water to close the pores and cool the skin. Giving your skin and pores some time to recover will prevent any irritations or stinging that lotion on opened pores might cause.
